Here’s the context: Marie is napping. Anna has been outside playing since the moment she finished her breakfast. She is covered in sunscreen from nose to toes and has chosen to only wear her undies in the backyard. She came inside for a brief rest from the sun and decided to start singing the Mockingbird song. ”Hush little baby, don’t say a word.” We sing it almost every night, it’s in one of our nursery rhyme books that’s in rotation right now.
As she sat there, with her hair all warm and messy and smelling like outside, singing in her sweet, earnest, three-year-old voice, totally lacking any self consciousness, just loving life and who she is and all that there is to explore, I had to grab my camera to try and capture her little essence just as she is at this very moment. It just changes so fast! Literally, tomorrow, it won’t be the same! Something will have changed! Ah. I love this beautiful girl with her big, enthusiastic heart and gentle nature.
