The Story of Summer

This is the story of one hour of our summer.  We had come from the pool, hair unwashed and unbrushed, nails untrimmed.  Dresses were thrown on in a rush, and shoes didn’t match.  We were in search of swings and slides and sunshine.  Enjoying the green outdoors, the sweaty heat of the afternoon, the drone of the cicadas, the chatter of cyclists buzzing by on the bike path.  Summer in Madison is a dreamy place to be.

We just passed the one-year mark of living in Madison, and whew, what a whirlwind it’s been.  I can’t believe it’s been eight months since I’ve posted here.  How is that even possible?  The truth behind my blogging absence is that we bought a house in December, ended up taking on the remodeling of that house ourselves, got swallowed by a polar vortex (or five), finished the bulk of the remodeling by the skin of our teeth before our move-in deadline, finally moved in, and have been slowly coming up for air ever since!

In between all of the sledgehammer-insulation-drywall drama, I’ve gotten to meet and work with some incredible families, both here and in Chicago.  Here are some of my favorite images, with more to come.

Thank you so much for continuing to be interested in my work.  Photography is my happy place and I am incredibly grateful to be able to grow my passion all over again here in Madison!

Brand New

“I love these little people; and it is not a slight thing when they, who are so fresh from God, love us.” ~Charles Dickens

Seriously, you guys…Madison has some of the most amazing photo locations, doesn’t it?  Water, forest, grasslands, you name it.  I just love living here!

Since the weather was so lovely today, Anna and I ventured out to take her five year portraits.  Our time with this shoot will go down in my memory as one of my most favorite afternoons in my life.  She was so excited to be doing this with me, the light could not have been more gorgeous, and watching her have such confidence and pride made my heart swell with love and gratitude.

After a month, we are finally feeling a bit settled in Madison.  The last few weeks have been a total whirlwind.  Between the 16 hour drive from Texas, living in a hotel for almost two weeks, finally getting our stuff from the movers, unpacking, getting the girls registered for school in the fall, and finding summer activities to keep all of us occupied, it has been a bit nuts.  But, as we slowly find our bearings, we can’t quite believe how lucky we feel to have landed here.

We also celebrated Marie’s 3rd birthday a few weeks ago!  I just had time this week to finally sit down and create her 3rd Birthday Diary.  I love this earnest, big-hearted, growing girl!

I have an announcement coming up soon about a fun new expansion of my business, so check back in a week or so for that news.  I am so excited about it and can’t wait to share.

I hope you’re all having a fabulous summer.
